20’s   Generally there are no signs of ageing but you should keep your skin hydrated with skincare that contain antioxidant protection, in order to prevent premature ageing and protect the skin from UV rays.

30’s   The skin will start to look dull no longer fresh and peachy. The cell renewal has started to slow down and fine lines are appearing around the eyes and mouth area.

40’s   A significant decrease in the production of elastin and collagen the skin starts to sag, with noticeable lines and wrinkles, skin looks dull and dry, age spots and hyperpigmentation start appearing.

50’s and 60’s   The ageing process will be intensified with wrinkles, fine lines your skin will be in need of profuse hydration and exfoliation to jumpstart cell rejuvenation.

Consider a skincare routine early to assist glow and firmness of the skin as you age, but if you’re a late starter, start as soon as you see the signs appearing:

A good day moisturiser manages two jobs—hydration and protection.  Choose a plant-based moisturiser because plant oils and butters contain essential fatty acids and antioxidants that will penetrate the skin better than man-made emollients like mineral oil or lanolin and antioxidants from natural sources that contain bioflavonoids and other beneficial compounds not found in synthetic versions.

It is imperative to wear a sunscreen on a daily basis because  the sun’s UV rays are always present even on cloudy days.  Use non-irritating physical sun blocks like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

Always eat a balanced diet – in particular get your daily requirement of essential fatty acids (omega 3 and 6), antioxidants (vitamins A to K), minerals (selenium, zinc, etc.) and WATER in its natural form or in a herbal tea as the body needs to remain hydrated.

Why are facials so beneficial to ageing skin?

Exfoliation is key to flawless skin because it assists in the skins ability to regenerate and produce new skin cells and keep the skins appearance fresh, plump and radiate.   A course of facials  should be considered as part of your skin care regime to maintain healthy ageless skin.
